The usual host of changes were forced apon us however the most significant change was the switch of captaincy. Family commitments will mean that Tony Morgan will be unable to be at all our games and it was felt best all round that the armband go to a player that will be a regular. Graeme Fulton was promoted to the role and hopefully will lead by example, this will of course means being in attendance for every game injured or not, also despite the temptation of a spectators role watching any other match. Injury to West meant that he was unavailable today and Hamilton was also missing from last weeks starting eleven. Back up utility man Mark Michie was also unrequired but credit to him for phoning in to check on the numbers situation before making plans for the day. Sct Marlow was in goal, Mutch, Skipper Fulton, Young and Duncan were in defence. Wallce, MacDonald, Morgan and Jacques formed the midfield behind front two Webster and R.Fulton. Our bench was almost filled to capacity with Marlow, Wood, Simpson and Trialist Brown ready on the sideline. Bankhead had been beaten pretty comprehensively earlier in the season but on that occasion they had played with a crippled keeper, this afternoon they had their first choice custodian in between the sticks. The home side started well ans Sct Marlow had to fly out of his area in 5 to boot clear. After 15 neat play by Jacques down the left played Webster through and he coolly slipped us in front. Only 5 mins later R.Fulton doubled our lead, cutting in from the left to rifle home a stunning drive. Young defied his rampant hangover to block a Bankhead attack however the home side who were playing down the slope pulled one back in 30 when their skipper rose to head home at the back post after the ball was far too easily crossed over from the right. Almost straight from the ko Halli regained the 2 goal advantage when Webster pounced on an error from the home keeper and rolled the ball home. Halli were on top and R.Fulton picked up the challenge from fellow striker Webster, when he too grabbed his brace. He worked his way into the box before scoring from a tight angle on the right. Incredibly the scoring was not finished for the half and Bankhead pulled back another one this time from the spot after Mutch had pulled down his man from behind (2-4). Plenty of goals so far to keep the fans on the edge of their seats and now it was Halli’s turn to drive down the slope. Wallace was sent through on goal in 50 but took his shot too quickly and it slipped just wide of the post. Morgan battled in midfield to release Jacques who saw his low cross battered into touch. In 70 Head scored a 3rd when a ball through the middle caught us flat footed. In 75 Wallace broke through the centre again and this time he remained calm to deposit the ball into the net. Around this point in the match our play became scrappy with too many passes going astray, for a 10 minute spell Bankhead were in charge and in 80 R.Fulton surrendered possession wide left. A good ball up the line was turned into the middle and an attacker rose to head home 4-5 ! Wood took over from MacDonald in 82. Still this game had not been won but again Halli carved out a 2 goal advantage when in 84 Wallace turned a cross into the box which deceived the keeper and looped into the far corner of the net. With 2 minutes remaining Webster had just enough energy left to claim his first hat trick of the season when he held off a defender to prod the ball past the keeper (F.T 4-7) Defences on top form then throughout this goal feast. Great to score 7 but disappointing to let in 4 against a side languishing at the bottom of the league. With luck Webster can now pick up the mantle from the injured Laing and Fisken and go on to fire in a few goals. Todays hat – trick helped him to the Hallitopman award this afternoon. Scottish Cup next week when we face Luthermuir in our quest for a place at Hampden.
