Season Overview
Very pleasing to complete my 20th season as manager sitting higher up the AAFA leagues than ever before. I felt it would be difficult for us in our first season in the first division but in fairness I believe we more than held our own. If truth be told I think we were in the easier of the two first divisions, however our performance throughout the campaign did us proud. That said I think we could have done better particularly in terms of goals against in the league. It was really disappointing to concede the 100th goal of the full season in our last game but on a plus we balanced that by bagging our 104th !! Our Scottish Cup adventure proved to be enjoyable apart from the obvious disastrous injury sustained by Scott. The trips were great although very expensive. The club are due a huge debt to Paul Andrews who agreed to pull on the gloves to cover for Scott and taking his first performance out of the equation the veteran was superb and thoroughly deserved the Managers Player of the Season. Throughout the season we have yet again been plagued with injuries, Scott, Bruce, Ross, Greg even rock steady Nick out for long spells. Add to that the fact we lost Tony and John then we have done remarkably well. John was perhaps not everyone’s favourite to play alongside, however his presence was sorely missed against some of the stronger sides in our league, when it cried out for someone to take charge verbally, that said I believe we now have a solid midfield option. The introduction of Alan Gebbie and Roy Brown this season has added to the squad with both players making a good impression. I believe that we could do with a few additional players in for next season and I am delighted to have secured the signature of Ewen Milne who returns to the Halli ranks after a few seasons raising a family. Best performance of the season? 10 against Geldie ? 9 against Auchnagatt? I would go for a superb win and performance in Paisley against Bishpton. The opening 20-30 mins there were possibly the best ever displayed by a Halliburton side. Best goal of the season, well they all count but for me it would be hard to beat Beavers 99th club goal when he hit a back heeled overhead volley home against Glendale X1, possibly the best ever Halli goal? Best save? Difficult not to pick out a double save off a penalty kick from Paul but I go for Scott’s unbelievable stop moments after breaking his ankle in three places against Bishopton. Everyone has their own highlights, which can range from magical skill to Paul Andrews dry docking Jim in the changing room, so make up your own minds on that one. A well deserved and close victory in the Halli Player of the Year which Greg Young took home at the end of the campaign. Neale McDonald was another deserving precipitant of a Halli gong, He made the full back slot his own towards the end of the season and so starts next year as the man in possession. Andrew Laing is now hard on the heels of Messers Robertson, Webster & Woods in the all time scoring charts. I’m pretty certain Nicol Webster has many more to come and 28 would not be out of the question next term to see him go top of the all time scorers table particularly if he plays in all the games. We now know what it is all about in the first division and whilst we shall only come up against a few of the sides faced this season, I feel we can confidently go into 2011-12 as long as we can stay clear of any more long term injuries. Our thanks have to go out to The Red Star at Skene, Hallin Marine UK Ltd and Enship Ltd for sponsorship gratefully received. We may well be on the look out for a new main sponsor for next year so anyone with a spare grand please get in touch. Finally well done to every player, who turned out for Halliburton FC a now established first division side, we are a long way short of the premier league but have now set our standards for next term and should aim high
